For fraternities and sororities at the University of Iowa, Greek life means everything to its members. It’s full of friends and fun, scholarship, leadership, social life, semi-formals and formals, and community and campus-wide service projects. Greek life means not just four years of experience, but lifetime of involvement and memories. To the gentlemen of Sigma Pi, Greek life is all of these things and more! When you’re a Sigma Pi, you are a member of an international group of brothers, friends and family forever.
Formal and Informal Recruitment provides incoming students the fun and exciting opportunity to get a closer look at Greek organizations and see the many roles they play in the advancement of the University of Iowa as well as the Iowa City Community.
Recruitment Information:
Formal Recruitment:
The Formal Recruitment process typically takes place during the third week of classes at the University of Iowa. All in all, it’s five days of interaction with all of the chapters on campus. This is a basic schedule of events:
| Day 1- Meet the chapters at the IMU | |
| Day 2 & 3 – Visit the chapters that you’re interested in | |
| Day 4- Preference Day- Choose three fraternities to visit | |
| Day 5- Bid Day – Fraternities extend bids to recruits |
The mutual selection process allows both the fraternities and the recruits to make the right decision for both parties.
Informal Recruitment:
The Informal Recruitment process is held during the beginning of Spring Semester in late February at the University of Iowa. For the most part it is much more openly structured than the Formal Recruitment process. Typically, students select fraternities that are invited to visit or that they’d like to visit. Bid cards are handed out at multiple times during the week.
